Samsung's smartphone with curved display

Samsung announce smartphone with curved (flexible) display to be released in October 2013…

Samsung have announced that their next smartphone will feature a curved display.

“We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in October,” said D.J. Lee, Samsung’s mobile business head of strategic marketing.

Talking at an event in South Korea, Lee did not reveal any other details about the upcoming handset.

Samsung already have a curved-screen phone – the glass covering the Nexus S had a gentle curve on it.

However experts believe that in this case it will be more than just rounded glass – but a flexible display.

If this is true, then users will be able to bend and pull Samsung’s next phone, which could also protect the device from damage when you drop it.

We have seen prototypes using both plastic and glass, and experts believe this final product will have a glass screen.

The company first showed off a prototype flexible screen at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2011.

Then last year they released a second version with an OLED screen that curved around the side of the phone.

Samsung have also recently applied for a patent for a smartphone that is curved long its vertical axis.
